(Parliament News)March 11, 2021:- The Foreign and Peace Affairs Standing Committee of the House of Peoples' Representatives and the Japanese Embassy in Addis Ababa discussed issues related to strengthening people-to-people relations between the two countries.

Honorable Negeri Lencho (Phd), Chairperson of the Foreign and Peace Affairs Standing Committee of the House of Peoples' Representatives of Ethiopia said both countries have strong cooperation in good times and bad and will continue to strengthen their partnership, especially in the areas of climate change, politics and the economy sector.

He thanked Japan for its humanitarian assistance to Ethiopia despite various natural disasters and wished Japan a bright future.

"Ethiopia has never violated the sovereignty of any country except maintaining its peacekeeping role in Africa and outside Africa," he said. However, he said that in recent times, campaigns challenging the change have been observed at home and abroad.

However, he said that in recent times, campaigns against the new reform are being witnessed at home and abroad.

He hopes Japan acquainted with the current Situation in Tigray regional state as well as Ethiopia's clear aim on the Graet Renaissance Dam and shows its partnership by understanding its clear position and informing others.

Japan's Ambassador to Ethiopia H.E Ito Takako, who was present at the bilateral meeting, on her part said her country is working hard to learn from the natural disasters and thanked the international community, including Ethiopia, for its support to the people and government of Japan.

On the other hand, the ambassador said that they have recently visited the area to investigate the current situation in Tigray regional State and praised the efforts of the Ethiopian government and international donors to address the problem.

She said the Japanese government has provided 6.6 million birr for humanitarian assistance, including food and medical services, to the people of Tigray and promised to continue the support.

Japans’ commitment to Ethiopia to strengthen ties in education, health and economy and encouraging the private sector to work together is enormous, she said.
