“Ethiopia has registered 6.1 percent economic growth” said FDRE Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.

(Parliamentary news)  April 23, 2021;-  The Prime Minister is responding to questions from members of the House on economic and current affairs.

Responding to economic issues, including the high cost of living, Honorable Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (Phd) said major activities, including have been carried out to reduce debt burden, complete ongoing projects, improve exports and revenue.

He added that the conflict has inflicted significant damage to the economy; Nevertheless the country's economy had grown by 6.1 percent last year and was ahead of other countries. He also pointed out that for countries with large population; the overall growth rate does not change the per capita income of individuals vividly.

He said the ongoing economic stimulus package in the country will further motivate the country's economy.

Regarding inflation, he explained that the increase in agricultural inputs has increased by 30% but due to international pressure and greedy business owners and traders there is still inflation.

He said the government is working to solve these problems, increase the supply of wheat bread, improve the trading system and take action against unlawful business owners.
