Urban, Infrastructure and Transport Affairs Standing Committee Chairperson, Shewit Shanka, said Ethiopian Towns and Cities need to be the center of prosperity in the construction and infrastructure sectors.

The Chairperson of the standing committee made the remarks while reviewing the Ministry of Urban and Infrastructure's 10-month performance report.

Responding appropriately to inquire rose by the public, making the towns prosperous is the key task of the government to ensure the implementation of the comprehensive reforms launched in the country. Regarding the construction and supply of housing, the minister’s’ performance is low compared to its plan. 

She pointed out that Housing construction and other projects that launched by the government were being obsolete after a lot of money was spent. On the other hand, the government has spent millions of dollars renting an office building which is unnecessary waste of resources. She urged for an immediate resolution.

According toHonorable Shewit, the ministry's support to cluster solving the complexities of urban areas, sustainable development in food security and urban revenue collection is commendable. 

Members of the house, for their part said the construction of road infrastructure is the backbone of a country's economy. They indicated that road projects should be completed on time barring any extenuating circumstances. They said the sector needs to be considered for its benefits and equitable access.

Councilors point out that there is a lack of roads, access and damage in all parts of the country and that the people's demand for development is a matter of urgency and urgency.

Council members say there should be a culture of starting and finishing projects; He said as the construction of projects is seen as a problem of good governance by the people, the scale of the problem needs to be addressed in a sustainable manner.
