This was confirmed by the Standing Committee during a recent visit to the Mojo-Adama Water Supply Project.

The project was designed to provide adequate water supply to Adama. Due to delays in the construction of the project, the town's water crisis has not been resolved as quickly as it should.

According to the contract, the project is expected to be completed 7% in 30 days. Delayed due to design review, disagreements between contractors and consultants, and increase cost of construction materials; The committee noted that the performance is still less than 14 percent.

The project is being carried out by Chinese international construction company called CGCOC Group Co., Ltd.. It was hoped that the water crisis in Adama would be solved once and for all. For this: The committee confirmed that only two wells have been drilled so far, with plans to drill about 15 deep wells in Mojo.

Honorable Mesfin Dagne, Member of the Standing Committee said water shortages are a serious problem and the project should be accelerated. "Let the people of Adama get rid of this terrible problem. It should be done at every level."

He added that “The project should not be delayed for unreasonable reasons. To complete the project as soon as possible and to free the people of the city from the water crisis; Leaders at all levels need to be proactive,”

Another member of the committee honorable Ibisa Yesuf said that the project should completed with great effort and commitment that it will be completed in a short period of time to ensure the benefit of the people.All relevant government bodies should pay special attention to the successful implementation of the project he urged.

The Standing Committee commended the efforts made to make Adama a beautiful and clean city and the good start to the solid waste disposal system. The committee also observed that plastic bottles had been recycled. It noticed a gap in the plastic disposal system.

The committee observed the construction of the Adama city sewage treatment plant that the foundation stone had been laid in 2012 E.C. It noted that construction had been delayed due to design and related problems.

Deputy Mayor of Adama City Administration, His Excellency Mohamed Guye said despite the progress made in Adama, some important infrastructures, including water, are still inaccessible. In particular, he told the Standing Committee that the town's water problem has not yet been resolved.

The deputy mayor added that despite the efforts made in various sectors to solve the problems that have delayed the work of the water project, the construction is not satisfactory.

He said various activities are underway to beautify the city with the participation of the community. "Recognizing that the current solid waste disposal system is not suitable for the town, we are working to have a better waste disposal system," he said.

Adama City Administration Drinking Water and Liquid Service Enterprise Team Leader, Kassa Bekure on his part said it is planned to build 24 public and communal toilets in the town and 18 of them have been completed and handed over. The other six had not been completed due to lack of space.
