(Parliament news): Feb 11, 2022; Addis Ababa: The Human Resources Development, Placement and Technology Affairs Standing Committee of the HoPRs urged the Ministry of Jobs and Skills to pay due focus to job creation.

The Standing Committee’s urge came during the recent face-to-face discussion with the Ministry’s senior officials. By then; Chairperson of the Standing Committee, Honourable Negerri Lencho (PhD) said, the Ministry has irreplaceable role to ascertain the economic growth of the nation.

The Chairperson added, the job creation part would be of paramount importance in bringing about the desired economic growth and hence, justice and equity shall be considered during the process of implementing the necessary actions of the sector.

Honourable Negerri (PhD) also recommended the experience sharing sessions among the haves who created their wealth through technical and vocational trainings and those aspiring as humble beginners. As a result, he pointed; citizens could incline towards vocational endeavours rather than only attending their higher commission education.

The Ministry shall strictly follow the appropriate feasibility of grants and aids from various countries intended to upgrade the efforts of the sector, the Chairperson reminded.

Members of the Standing Committee on their part recommended market networks and technology transfer to minimize unemployment and enhance the living standards of citizens. They also implied the necessity of improvement of credit system which in turn would improve the just beneficence of unemployed citizens.

Her Excellence Muferiat Kamil, Minister of the Jobs and Skills Ministry presented the six months performance report to the Standing Committee. During then, she disclosed the country saw 1 million new employments though the plan for the period was 1 point 5 million.

According to the Minister, the hindrance for the sector is that there are some enterprises that want to retain in their status rather than being promoted to the new level that deserves their efforts and fulfils the national plan of the sector. Hence, the Ministry is thinking of legal measure to deal with the situation because they should leave it for other unemployed citizens.

The Ministry, as to Muferiat, has a plan to work with all regions as well as with Addis Ababa City and Dire Dawa Administrations being based on studies to be conducted ahead of time. This would be carried-out due to the reason that the tourism and agriculture sectors shall comprise new job creations while the service sector has already occupied many new employees, the Minister disclosed.
