Biography

Dr Mesrak Mekonnen Yetneberk has worked as a Veterinary Doctor and Section Head for Animal Health Section in different parts of the country. She worked as a member of the Zonal Administration Executive Council for South Wollo Administrative Zone in the Amhara National Regional State. She worked as deputy speaker and speaker of the Amhara Regional State Council. She worked as a State Minister of the Civil Service Ministry and the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries. Starting from the 8th of June 2018, she is working as the Secretary General of the House of People’s Representatives of Ethiopia.

Born in the city of Harar, Ethiopia, Dr. Mesrak holds a DVM Degree in Veterinary Medicine from the Havana Institute of Agricultural and Animal Science (The Republic of Cuba) and a Masters of Arts (M.A.) in Transformational Leadership and Change from Greenwich University UK. Trained in Democracy, the Rule of law and Security from the University of Birmingham, she is qualified to lead the up scaling process of community conversation core training in Ethiopia.

She served as a Chairperson for the General Assembly of the Organization for Rehabilitation and Development in Amhara (ORDA), Member of the Executive Board of the four federal hospitals, Chairperson of the Executive Board of the one of federal hospital ( St. Peter Referral Hospital), and Member of the Executive Board of Ethiopian Management Institute. She is a member of the National Coalition for Women against HIV/AIDS and Board member of the day Ethiopian school meal initiative institute.
