(Parliament news): November 09, 2021; Addis Ababa: HoPRs of the FDRE assigned committee chairpersons, examined and affirmed the resolution for appointing members of the Advisory Committee of the House and passed another resolution enacted for amending the number as well as duties and responsibilities of the Standing Committees of the House, today.

Accordingly, the following nominees have got House confirmation to undertake their respective Standing Committees chairing responsibilities of the 6th House:

The HoPRs ratified the resolution for assigning chairpersons to the respective standing Committees with a majority vote and 18 abstains as Resolution 4/2014.

The House also scrutinized and affirmed the resolution for appointing members of the House’s Business Advisory Committee pursuant to Article 55 (19) of the Constitution of the land and the appropriate respective decree stated in Rules of Procedures and Members’ Code of Conduct Regulation. It did so seeing one objecting MP and other seven MPs standing against. Though, the majority cast boosted the House to pass the resolution as Resolution 2/2014.

According to the Rules of Procedures and Members’ Code of Conduct Regulation of the House, the Advisory Committee shall be composed of the Speaker, the Deputy Speaker and the party whips as well as of the representatives of the groups of the House delegated according to the proportion of their seats, and shall be presided over by the Speaker.

The Advisory Committee is expected to formulate the business to be discussed by the House, shall prepare and submit the draft annual budget of the House, follow-up and supervise the administration of the manpower, finance and property of the House along with numerous additional tasks allocated to it by law.

The House, in its annexed agenda, considered the resolution set for the formation and deciding the limits of powers and duties of the Standing Committees of the House and conducted a deliberation. It then agreed in the provisions of the resolution with 15 abstains and the majority vote labelling the resolution as Resolution 3/2014. This resolution has actually paved the way for the appointment of the chairpersons whose names are aforementioned.
