House designates deputy, other commissioners for Human Rights

 (Parliament news): June 25, 2021; Addis Ababa: House of Peoples’ Representatives affirms the designation of Deputy Chief commissioner and other Commissioners for taking over their respective offices in the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission, today.

The House attended the presentation of report and resolution compiled by nominating committee of candidates for deputy commissioner and other commissioners. It was Honourable Tagesse Chaffo, Speaker of the House; who presented the final conviction of the committee to the MPs.

Accordingly, W/ro Rakeb mesele was appointed for Deputy Chief Commissioner position. Others: W/rit Meskerem Gesit, Commissioner for Women and Children Rights Affairs; W/ro Rigibe Gebrehawaria, Commissioner for Rights Affairs of the Disabled and Elderly people and Abdi Gibriel (PhD), Commissioner for Civil and Political Rights Affairs – vowed an oath of allegiance to execute the vested interests of the public as per the law of the land.

MPs appreciated the combination of appoints due to the fact that three of them are women and a woman among them is disabled, representing the broad population of the disabled citizens in the society. All of them were urged by MPs to meet the ever growing need in respecting human rights as per the law of the land and all int’l laws adopted by the country as an integral part of the law of the land.

On the other hand, the House referred a proclamation to amend the proclamation defining the powers and functions of the House of Federation of the FDRE as a draft proclamation No. 18/2013 to the Legal, Justice and Democracy Affairs Standing Committee for further scrutiny, unanimously.

Similarly, the House referred a proclamation to amend the establishment of the secretariat of the House of Federation of the FDRE as bill No. 19/2013 to the Legal, Justice and Democracy Affairs Standing Committee for further scrutiny, unanimously.

The House, as per the agenda of the day, discussed on the minutes of the 15th regular session and ratified its content with some corrections unanimously.
