(Parliament news): November 19, 2021; Addis Ababa: The Legal, Justice and Democracy Affairs Standing Committee of the HoPRs announced, its monitoring and over-sighting duties shall get sound starting from this very fiscal year in order to ascertain the beneficence of the public.

Honourable Etsegenet Mengistu, Chairperson of the Committee, in her exclusive interview held this afternoon with the Media Directorate of the Secretariat of the House indicated; the Committee will engage in its activities by making itself physically available at areas where its interventions are needed.

“The Committee, in addition to assessing the annual plans of the concerned stakes, will engage public platforms for public hearings;” the Chairperson said.

As to her, this fiscal year; the Committee will pay due emphasis to enactment of bills as well as its monitoring and over-sighting duties and responsibilities, which are specific jurisdictions of its parliamentary involvement.

Etsegenet disclosed, the Committee has officially commenced its duties and responsibilities after due evaluation of its Ethiopian 2014 fiscal year’s plan. It’s expected to monitor and conduct over-sights at all 24 institutions, which are under its responsibility, including some of the democracy and justice organizations, she explained.

The Chairperson added all institutions under the responsibility and auspices of the Committee are believed to plan and execute their operational and strategic plans pursuant to the Ten-Year Development Plan, which was unveiled last year and will be evaluated with the yardsticks of this major plan of the country.

What will make the Committee’s duties peculiar is, as to Etsegenet; all failures will entail legal consequences as per the level of shortcomings faced and the findings of monitoring and over-sightings.
