- Honourable Etsegenet Mengistu

(Parliament news): December 30, 2021; Addis Ababa: Honourable Etsegenet Mengistu, Chairperson of the Legal, Justice and Democracy Affairs Standing Committee said; “The general public will vote for the anticipated commissioners of the National Dialogue Commission and the House of Peoples’ Representatives will approve their final nomination” in a press conference her Standing Committee held this morning.

As to the announcement of the Chairperson, the general public of Ethiopia will get involved in the nomination of the prospective commissioners of the Commission. The upcoming process will be, according to Honourable Etsegenet; swearing-in allegiance of 11 finalists out of 14 nominees being presented to the House by the Speaker of the House.

“The major objective of the proclamation, which was ratified just before a day was depleting the existing disparities regarding national issues among the citizens of the nation. These issues shall be those tempting the national existence and of those identified as barriers for the national consensus” the Chairperson said.

Regarding the political or any other negotiation between or among political parties or any other entities, the Chairperson cleared the air that there will be nothing as such purpose behind the establishment of the National Dialogue Commission.

The upcoming Commission shall formulate proposals from the anticipated dialogues and consultations and shall turn make them feasible, Honourable Etsegenet ponted. Then after, the House and other stakeholders shall work diligently for practicing these proposal outcomes and there will be a strong mechanism of over-sighting and monitoring them, she added.

The commissioners will have three years duration of office terms which may be amended as per the need, the Chairperson clarified.

It’s recalled that we reported about the promulgation of the bill of proclamation for establishing the National Dialogue Commission yesterday.
