(Parliament News); August 9, 2023; The House of People's Representatives of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia issued an urgent meeting call to its members.

The house convened the meeting to examine and pass a decision on the emergency declaration announced by the council of ministers.

Following the recent security Problem in the Amhara region, the Council of Ministers of the Federal Government issued Emergency Proclamation No. 6/2015 on August 5, 2023 based on Article 93 Sub-Article 1 (a) of the Constitution of Ethiopia.

In connection with this, according to Article 93 Sub-Article 2 (A) and (B) of the Constitution, the emergency declaration declared by the Council of Ministers to protect the peace and security of the country is to be presented to the House of People's Representatives for a decision, but it is known that the House is on vacation.

Article 58 (4) of the Constitution and Article 15 (1) of the Code of Conduct and Ethics of Members of the Council No. 6/2008 state that the Speaker of the House may call an urgent meeting when the House is on vacation and there are urgent matters that require the Council's decision. According to the regulations, the agenda was presented to the advisory committee of the House and it was unanimously approved; The House called an urgent meeting on August 14, 2023 at 2:00 PM.

Therefore, members were called to report in person from 8:30 AM on that day. It is expected that the House will examine the emergency declaration and pass a decision on that day.
