The House of Peoples' Representatives of the FDRE urges war and drought-stricken areas to provide adequate fertilizer, quality seeds and to recover quickly and get proper support. Especially to those most severely affected by war and famine.

The House made the announcement while listening to the Ministry of Agriculture's 9-month performance report.

Citizens who have been and still are living in areas affected by man-made and natural disasters due to drought and war; The House noted that they needed adequate fertilizer and improved seeds to recover from their damage.

A number of questions from the Standing Committee on Agriculture and House members regarding the implementation of the report were raised to the Ministry. Agriculture Minister H.E Omar Hussein responds to questions from Standing Committee and house members.

Why is there a shortage of fertilizer in the country? What is the status of green development? What is being done to improve coffee production and productivity and to produce fertilizer locally? What does it look like to support drought and war-affected areas? What is the plan to increase job creation in the agricultural sector, deliver the best seeds and mechanization? were the main questions.

In his response, H.E Omar Hussein said that the supply of fertilizer should be extended to all areas, that green development should not be a matter of campaign and that the benefits and costs should be regularly assessed. He noted the need to increase productivity.

He said the fertilizer factories, which have started to produce high-value fertilizers, should be completed in consultation with the relevant stakeholders. He said the need for fertilizer needs to be met by preparing and using compost.

He told the parliament that the ministry intends to work harder to create job opportunities for the people by providing mechanization which helps in changing farmer’s overall status in rural areas and also reduces their time and effort.
