(Parliamentary News), July 4, 2023; The 6th House of Peoples' Representatives of the FDRE discussed the 2023/2024 draft budget in its 27th regular meeting of the 2nd year of its term.

The Standing Committee on Planning, Budget and Finance Affairs presented the questions raised by the Standing Committee and the public on the draft budget and an explanation was given by the Minister of Finance, Mr. Ahmed Shide.

How much of the budget allocated is based on the ability of institutions to perform, the scope of work, the economic and social benefits of the institution, and the allocation based on audit findings? The questions were raised by the Standing Committee.

What is the intention of prioritizing road projects that have been previously budgeted and not completed in the next fiscal year? Questions were also presented.

In his explanation, the minister stated that the budget allocation for the executive offices is based on the government's focus, the implementation capacity of the institutions, and to ensure that the offices carry out their assigned missions properly.

Mention that the allocated budget is based on certain levels of performance; He pointed out that the expenditure categories that should be reduced have been properly checked and appropriate adjustments have been made.

He said that the budget allocation is based on this, as institutions have to work on their operations to correct the current inflation.

He also mentioned that maintaining growth and being able to create a stable foreign exchange environment are macroeconomic objectives.

The Minister said that government will work on job creation and increase the economic participation of the private sector.

He also stated that the main objective of the presented budget is to prevent inflation, to continue the development works done in the budget and to prevent the budget deficit from expanding.

Mr. Ahmed Shide said that the budget required to finish the development works is very high. He said that the budget allocation is prepared in accordance with these conditions.
