The mining sector is expected to achieve Ethiopia's prosperity, acording to the 9th regular session of the 6th House of Peoples' Representatives of the FDRE.

The parliament made the announcement in a statement issued today after hearing the Ministry of Mines' nine-month performance report.The House review and evaluate the duties of the Ministry of Mines in detail.

It is known that the country did not benefit from mining resources due to its complex challenges.Since the reform, however, achievements in the mining sector have raised hopes for Ethiopia's prosperity. The House recognizes that the sector itself is one of the pillars of multi-economy.

The House stressed the need for significant change in Ethiopia's mining sector and the need to intensify efforts to replace imported minerals with domestic products.

Over the past nine months, the ministry has been focusing on boosting exports, replacing imports with domestic products and expanding job creation for citizens. The House also noted that it has made significant efforts to improve its long-term plan, policies, regulations and guidelines.

According to Honorable Dr. Amarech Kalo, Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Mines and Industry Affairs of the House , the Ministry of Mines was established by the government as the backbone of the country's economy.

She encouraged the establishment of mining centers in higher education institutions to creat knowledgeable young people in the mining sector. On the other hand, Dr. Amarech lauded the fact that the consolidation of the ministry's affiliated institutions into one center is a good experience to reduce budget expenditure and efficiency.

She said the preparation of the country's mineral resources for public display and coordination to ensure security in the mining areas are a positive development. Because the mining sector is naturally in high demand, both internally and externally; Dr. Amarech also said that the institution should work in collaboration with the relevant institutions and the judiciary to prevent illegal activities.

She said the institute should take responsibility not to be the cause of discrimination, instability and conflict in the production area. He also pointed out that the institute's mining studies should be held in a database and should be internationally competitive.

She stressed that the sale of mining, including gold, should comply with international trade standards and that the quality of the products should be maintained. Members of the house for their part said the country should get the expected benefits from the mining sector. He said the institute should focus on fertilizer, coal and steel production and tangible results should be seen.

The Ministry of Mines minister, Takele Uma, on his part said the prosperity of Ethiopia is a matter of life and death for the benefit of the farmers. He also mentioned that the inputs needed to produce fertilizer are locally available. He said preparations are underway for the production of coal in the next few months.
