TPLF and Shene have been fulfilled the terrorism label

(Parliamentary News) May 7, 2021: Addis Ababa:- Government Assistant whip and State Minister, Ambassador Mesfin Chernet, said the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) and Shene have fully complied with the label of terrorism.

The ambassador made the remarks while presenting a resolution to the House of Peoples' Representatives to designate the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) and Shene as terrorists.

He said the actions taken by the organizations fully comply with the interpretation of Article 3 of Proclamation No. 1176/2020 on the Prevention and Control of Terrorism which involves the use or treat of violence and seeks to create fear, not just within the direct victims but among a wide audience.

  The ambassador explained that the purpose of the resolution is to stop the ongoing acts of terrorism against the people and specific terrorism offenses by the organizations.

The resolution will weaken the terrorist group's financial capacity, prevent civilians from cooperating with the organizations, and create more capacity for law enforcement to prevent and control the crime, the state minister said.

The Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) According to the ambassador, the executive committee has decided to organize an illegal armed force called "Tigray Central Military Command".

According to the resolution, a new unit called the Force Deployment Unit has been set up under the Regional Security Bureau to facilitate the aim of the central military command of Tigray.

According to Ambassador Mesfin Chernet, the armed forces are preparing for war by providing mechanized and group weaponries training that should not be carried out by regional governments.

The resolution states that TPLF has trained manpower that can move and shoot firearms without having of tanks, cannons, anti-aircraft guns and rocket-propelled grenades.

The organizations have reciprocated the acts of terrorism perpetrated by terrorist organizations such as al-Qa'eda, Boko Haram, and ISIS. Members of the House said University students have been abducted and disappeared in an unprecedented way in our country and it was inappropriate for them not to be designated as terrorists in the wake of the attack on the Northern Command of National Defense Force.

“When all this is happening, why is there not enough awareness created for the international community?" asked MPs.

Federal Attorney General Gedion Timotiwos(Phd), for his part, said the resolution would help other countries to engage in international legal cooperation and will work to create awareness by elucidation the resolution to other countries.

It was unanimously approved by a majority vote as resolution No 10/2021 and abstained from one voice.
