Speaker of the House of Peoples’ Representatives Hon. Mrs. Muferehat Kamil says, Ethiopian parliament and National People’s Congress of China will have to play their own role to elevate the two countries’ economic cooperation to the highest level.
Hon. Speaker Mrs. Muferehat Kamil, together with the Speaker of the House of the federation, Hon. Mrs. Keriya Ibrahem held talk with, Chairman of the standing committee of the National People’s Congress of China, who is paying a 3 days an official goodwill visit to Ethiopia.
H.E. Mr. Li Zhanshu, in his brief stay with the two Speakers of Ethiopian parliament discussed the importance of parliamentary cooperation to deepen the two countries bilateral relations and to further strengthen the economic cooperation between the two states.
H.E. Mr. Li Zhanshu, says, ‘’ Now, Ethiopia and China are at new point of relation and my visit to Ethiopia is to reaffirm China’s interest to support Ethiopian the new governance; the recent peaceful transition of power in Ethiopian shows the wisdom and political capability in governance.’’ China engagement in Ethiopia, in infrastructure development, capacity building and productivity will be strengthened than ever, he added.
Hon. Speaker Mrs. Muferehat Kamil, on her part, explained that Ethiopia and China has commonalities; once they were home of ancient glorious civilization and in the course of history፣ they faced similar challenges of development. She maintained that as China a long leading development partner to Ethiopia, it is essentially vital to further strengthen the relation between Ethiopian parliament and the National People’s Congress of China and to reinforce people to people ties.
Hon. Speaker Mrs. Muferehat Kamil, noted China and Ethiopia to work for their shared political advantages and China’s support and encouragement to Ethiopian commitment to bring political stability in the Horn of Africa, to restore peace and stability in South Sudan and Somali.
Hon. Mrs. Keriya Ibrahem expressed that Ethiopia has benefited from China’s support in infrastructure development, capacity building and technology transfer and urged much more Chinese companies to invest in Ethiopia.
After the end of the brief discussion, the two sides inked Memorandum of Understanding ( MoU), which is believed to be a vital opportunity to consolidate parliamentary cooperation between the two states.
