House discusses, redirects three bills

Dec 17, 2019; Addis Ababa: The 6th regular session of the House of Peoples’ Representatives hold discussions on three bills and redirected them for further verifications to the concerned standing committees.

His excellence Government Whip State Minister Chala Lemmi elaborated, the bill for investment affairs considers job opportunities, transfer of technological skills and knowledge to the indigenous experts, an increase in getting for-ex and utilization of natural resources of the country.

The House pointed, the two years’ time span to initiate the already green-lighted investment should be minimized. It also forwarded suggestions on the other issues of the bill and redirected to the trade and industry affairs standing committee mainly; to the revenues, budget and finance affairs standing committee as co-worker to deal on the details of the bill numbered: 16/2011.

The bill for privatization of government organizations took the floor next. The House recommended some organizations better stay on the hand of government. It also suggested research for the pros and cons of privatization of the government organizations to be privatized. The House expressed its interest to know the explicit list of identification of the organizations to be totally and partially transferred.

The bill was redirected as bill number 17/2012 to the revenues, budget and finance standing committee for further verification with the majority vote while three resisted and six no votes faced it.

The last but not the least was the excise tax bill. The House suggested on the increment of tobacco tax due to its vast societal health consequences and on the other topics. The bill was unanimously redirected to the revenues, budget and finance standing committee as bill number 18/2012 for further investigations.
