House endorses two bills

Dec 24, 2019; Addis Ababa: The 7th regular session of the HoPRs endorsed the natural gas transportation pipeline bill between Ethiopia and Djibouti as well as the bill that updates the existing proclamation of the Federal Prisons.

Her excellence w/ro Fetiha Yesuf, chairwoman for the natural resources, irrigation and energy standing committee during the session said; the Ethio-Djibouti gas pipeline bill was exhaustively dealt upon by the concerned bodies. She added, the agreement between the two countries is of an international standard and details of duties are included in.

“The bill paves ways for negotiations if any disagreement happens along the process. If the disagreement prevails, an option of seeking justice from the international court of arbitration is also included in it. Generally, the bill helps Ethiopia entertain its longstanding will of consuming natural gas”, the chairwoman said.

Chairman of legal, justice and democracy affairs standing committee, his honour Ato Abebe Godebo on his part explained; the committee rigorously revised the bill with all the concerned parties and hence, the Federal Prisons Administration’s bill was heavily corrected.

The earlier discussions on the bill assisted to identify that it will enable the administration to practice all the decrees in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights Ethiopia already adopted, endorsed and made an integral part of the law of the land, the chairman elaborated.

The bill, endorsed as an updated proclamation, is hoped to enable the inmates’ lead healthy life when they are released from detention centres; as to the respected MP, Abebe Gode.

“Moreover, the bill opens relaxed doors for pregnant and infant-carrying woman prisoners to enjoy balanced diet and special care. Prisoners with disabilities also will entertain appropriate cares. And the media won’t be banned from visiting the detention centres following the procedures”, the chairman elucidated.

MPs of the House forwarded questions, comments and suggestions where, all are welcomed and treated fairly. As a result, the two bills were endorsed unanimously as proclamations.
