House reminds Large Tax-payers Office focus on liabilities

Dec. 04, 2019; Addis Ababa: House of Peoples’ Representatives of the FDRE reminded Large Tax-payers Office of the Ministry of Revenues to focus on collecting huge financial liabilities.

The standing committee for revenues, budget and financial affairs of the House reminded the office during a field visit paid physically. By then, the committee identified that the office executed 65 per-cent of its plan for revenue collection within the last four months of the fiscal year.

“The office collected tax revenue of 4 billion Eth Birr from its plan of 6 billion in four months. Though this is a good move, the office is expected to exert huge efforts because this is only the amount of liability collected from the 42 billion Eth Birr, which still is out there”, said Ato Teresa Ensesu, General Manager of the Large Tax-payers Office.

In addition, the manager told the committee that experts train and support businesses to avoid misunderstandings in relation to the cash register machines. Yet, a kind of technology for remote-control from office is now vital, he added.

Large tax-payers on their part said, the government must enforce legal actions on those who publish and disseminate illegal receipts in the market, rather than following the footsteps of us.

The opinion providers added tax-laws should also consider the other sides of the coin. Tax-collectors also pose problems and they should face justice as we do, tax-payers commented.

The standing committee forwarded advices for the office to cautiously look after its duties. The Large Tax-payers Office manager and his colleagues accepted the advices and on their part informed the committee about the challenges they suffer from proclamations and regulations disorder.

So, they said; a regulation endorsed after the ratification of a proclamation has been a real pain in the ass and let the House think about that.
