Inquiry Board inspect #COVID-19 solidarity response fund

May 3, 2020(HOPR):- The State of Emergency Inquiry Board encouraged Addis Ababa City Administration’s activities on humanitarian aid and charities that created funds to support communities and to reduce the impact of COVID-19.

The board visited the National Exhibition Centre of donation collected from charities and individuals to support the city's residents to protect the most vulnerable people who need access to clean water and sanitation and protective supplies.

Abraham Tadesse, head of the Office of Youth and Volunteer Coordination Bureau, explained that 3,884 youth have been organized by the association since the outbreak of the virus. “Your help will enable us prevent another crisis, which could have a devastating effect on those we have been asked to serve. Your funds will only be used for COVID-19 prevention and response, and with priority to the most exposed programs.” He added.

Volunteers have also been involved in fundraising activities, working closely with communities, awareness-raising in public areas and hand washing, donating blood, and hauling free, unloaded and sorted goods.

He said that the raw materials in the warehouse include soap, hand sanitizer, grocery store, mattresses, blankets and personal protective equipment. He also said that the properties were sorted so that they would not be damaged.

Chairperson of the Board Honourable Peteros Woldesenbet and members of the board commended the city administration's preparations to reduce the impact of #COVID-19 on the city and the community.

“Hand washing with soap is one of the cheapest, most effective things you can do to protect yourself and others against corona virus disease. Yet for millions, even this most basic of steps is out of reach. A donation today will help supply essential resources to where they are needed most. For in protecting others, we also protect ourselves.” He added.

He urged that the resources collected from volunteers, including money,  distribute to needy individuals and ensure proper distribution of the resources, and that the collection and distribution should be done only in a legal way.
