State of Emergency inquiry Board has officially begun operations.

Addis Ababa, 11 April 2020The State of Emergency Inquiry Board established last Friday by the House of Peoples’ Representatives (HPR) has officially began its duties to follow up and report handling of #COVID19 while implementing the state of emergency decree.

In the initiation program held at the main Hall of the HPR, the speaker of the House Honourable Tagesse Chaffo said the board is much historical in dealing with the outbreak of a novel Corona virus, which would be distinguished from the previous emergency Inquiry Board, and established in its quest to save the lives of citizens. Recognizing this, he recommends members of the Board to take their responsibility with commitment.

Chairperson of the Inquiry Board Honourable Peteros Woldesemayat announced, the characteristic of the virus is uncommon, and it makes the virus one of the most infectious known to humans. Therefore, the Inquiry Board should continue to work with stakeholders to ensure a collaborative response with continues to follow the developments on the Corona virus and adapts its activities flexibly to changing situations. He urge developing a framework for interventions to help share reliable information, while reducing misinformation, rumours and myths about COVID-19. 

The Chairperson also talk about The COVID-19 pandemic constitutes an unprecedented challenge with socio-economic consequences and the board is committed to do everything necessary to meet this challenge in a spirit of solidarity. He said they will monitor the execution of the proclamation's detailed operation plan and ensure that it will be put into practiced and present to the stakeholders as necessary.

He emphasized that the Board is resolute to carry out its duties in compliance with the constitution and the basic obligation it owes the Ethiopian public.The Board has set up an operation plan to track carrying out of the public statement and has provided a means for the free phone call add-on, creation of social media pages, basic protective measures and stay aware of the latest information on the COVID-19 outbreak.Members of the Board also express their dedication to accomplish this momentous responsibility.
