The Enquiry Board attends report of Minister’s Committee

  • The Board announces its one month main accomplishments

May 14, 2020; Addis Ababa: Enquiry Board of the State of Emergency attended one month’s performance report delivered by the Minister’s Committee established for fighting the effects of the Novel #COVID-19 pandemic.

His Excellence Demeke Mekonnin, Deputy Prime Minister of the FDRE and Chairman of the Minister’s Committee during the delivery said; the Committee’s emphasis were the proper implementation of dos and don’ts of the SoE across and along all hierarchies.

The Deputy Premier added; the Committee produced five manuals that are believed to enable the accomplishment of the duties of the Committee. The manuals are intended for governing legal procedures, transport services, transactions, ritual ceremonies and the employer, employee relations according to him.

”Religious denominations, being obedient to the demands mentioned in the SoE, halt their solemn ceremonies. In addition to this great measure, health practitioners across the nation and artists, media professionals, law enforcers and other stakeholders; contributed their part in preventing the widespread chances of the Corona virus. I believe we’ll do a lot in collaboration with regional administrations by avoiding the illegal trans-border interactions” the Chairman elaborated.

The Enquiry Board for the State of Emergency on its part announced its one month main accomplishments to the session. His Honour Petros Woldesenbet, Chairman of the Board disclosed; Board members paid field visits to multiple institutions like Ministry of Health, Federal Transport Authority and Addis Ababa City Administration.

Though all institutions are doing their best to prevent the spread of the virus, the Chairman pointed; there are uncovered loopholes still. In addition to the stalemate situation in the transport sector, the clumsy legal procedures for entities that violated the SoE have become an impediment to the smooth practice of the declaration; he elucidated.

His Honour Tesfaye Dhaba, Deputy Chairman of the Board on his part requested the Minister’s Committee for clarification regarding the social media trending issue of the violation of rights by law enforcers on citizens claimed on trespassing the decrees of the declaration.

The Deputy prime Minister responded, the State of Emergency declared to safeguard the lives of citizens but not to cause harm to anyone’s life. He also appreciated the feedbacks from the Board members which will be used as inputs for further tasks of the Committee.
