The House of People's Representatives has reviewed and approved the draft state of emergency issued by the Council of Ministers.

The fifth round and final year of the House held its 2nd Special Meeting today at the Office of the Prime Minister.

April 10, 2020 (HOPR) - The House in its special meeting today approved the five-month state of emergency period that was imposed by the Council of Ministers on April 8, 2020 to prevent, control and reduce the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Following the extensive discussion of the draft Proclamation, members of the House unanimously adopted and approved by majority vote and one abstain as Proclamation No.1189/2020.

The House also assigned State of Emergency Inquiry Board comprise seven members.

The Speaker of the House of Peoples 'Representatives of the F.D.R.E, Tagesse Chaffo presented active members of Inquiry Board to the House and 12 parliamentarians have voted against, while 5 other members of the house have abstained from the vote that approved by majority as decision No. 6/2020. All assigned members of the Inquiry Board have sworn an oath.

The House also approved eighty-two million, six hundred thousand U.S.D loan agreement signed between the Ethiopian government and the International Development Association for the implementation of the Cornea Emergency Response Project.

In addition, the federal government has approved $ 1.2 billion a supplementary budget for the budget year as Proclamation No.1188/2020.

Similarly, at the special session held today, the House approved a loan agreement between the Government of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the International Development Association for financing Ethiopia's Growth and Competence Development Framework as Proclamation No.1191/2020. The House also approved a loan agreement for the Africa centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Prevention Regional Investment Financing Project (ACDCP) as Proclamation No.1188/2020.
